​With the upcoming production by Jeunesses Musicales of Donizetti's comic opera ‘Don Pasquale' the following week in Lunenburg, Maritime Concert Opera's Artistic Director Nina Scott Stoddart will introduce us to the world of ‘comic opera', or ‘opera buffa'. The opera itself is highly entertaining and is generally regarded as being the high point of the 19th century opera buffa tradition. Nina will share her considerable knowledge and good humour on the subject with us. A tasty brunch, including Adams & Knickle scallops, follows Nina's presentation.

A significant military event occurred one hundred years ago. On October 3rd, 1914 the First Contingent of the Canadian Expeditionary Force set sail for Europe. Many would never see home again. This concert is musical tribute to Canadians who served their King and Country in the Great War, 1914-1918. Featuring the Chester Brass, the Citadel Singers and the South Shore Chorale & Friends, the programme will include old favourites such as, The Maple Leaf Forever, Farewell to Nova Scotia, Let There be Peace on Earth, In Flanders Fields, and Keep the Home Fires Burning. Audience members will be invited to join in a rousing sing-along of popular songs from 1914-1915 including, Tipperary, Pack Up Your Troubles, K-K-K-Katy, and Oh, How I Hate to get Up in the Morning.

Clary Croft will explore these songs from the Mi'kmaq, Acadian, Anglo, Celtic, German and African Nova Scotian repertoires. Nancy and Tim's stopover in Nova Scotia immediately precedes a nine-concert UK and Germany tour. The evening's performance will be a benefit for Musique Royale and will include music by Bach, Mozart, Debussy, and Schumann. Of this superb duo, the WholeNote says, “grace and fire… fury and repose… a triumphant mass of non-stop energy”. We are most grateful to them for making the time to visit us in Mahone Bay!

An intimate evening of music and food in support of MR and their upcoming performance of the St. Matthew Passion. Featuring Paul Halley and soloists from the following day's performance.

A special menu is planned for the evening's dinner, prepared and served by wonderful friends and volunteers with Musique Royale. Featuring Nick Halley, Paul Halley, the King's Chorus, Capella Regalis, and American Gospel singer, Theresa Thomason.

Written during the early years of their residency at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, Earth Mass has been performed by the Paul Winter Consort each year since its debut. A 'mass' for Mother Nature, Missa Gaia combines the usual texts and creeds of liturgy with more unusual texts and live recordings of nature's awesome creatures. The immense sounds of humpback whales and the eerie calls of wolves are woven with contemporary jazz in the instrumental, choral, and solo vocal parts to create a mass of stunning energy and depth. A morning of choral music and fun with CBC's Choral Concert host, and King's Chorus director, Nick Halley.

Join us for a chance to work with award-winning musician, Nick Halley, in an in-depth choral workshop open to singers of all ages and abilities. Using Paul Halley and Paul Winter's Missa Gaia, or Earth Mass, as the base for the workshop, Nick will delve into the intricate rhythms and jazzy chords of the piece in his usual charismatic and informative manner, offering expert singing techniques as well as good jokes. Not to be missed!

Halifax Camerata Singers celebrate the saints and legends who have walked among us and their contribution to our world. Their program pays tribute to John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr, Mother Teresa, Hildegard von Bingen, Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint John of the Cross, and others. Special guests Blue Engine String Quartet join Halifax Camerata Singers for this concert, which will include pieces by Benjamin Britten, Herbert Howells, Ola Gjeilo, René Clausen, as well as Canadian composers Jeff Enns, Imant Raminsh, Emily Walker and the premiere of a new work by Halifax Camerata Singers' 2013 New Song Competition winner, Elisha Denburg.
