For the finale of the Choral Feast, Musique Royale brings listeners a collective of 40 singers from Les Petits Chanteurs du Mont Royal, of one of the continent’s best-known boy’s choirs, the full group comprising over 210 boys, aged eight to seventeen. The Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal is a boys’ choir school established in 1956 by Father Léandre Brault, who was inspired by the great European tradition of boys’ choir schools dating back to the 6th century. The Boys’ choir performs sacred works enriching the many religious ceremonies at St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal. The boys come together from diverse social and cultural backgrounds to share a common passion for singing, and will perform a special concert at St. John’s on June 28th under the leadership of celebrated choral director, Andrew Gray!

Inscrite dans la tradition des grandes maîtrises dont les origines remontent en Europe au VIe siècle, la Maîtrise des Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal a été fondée en 1956 par le père Léandre Brault, c.s.c. Depuis le début elle a pour mission d’enrichir les services religieux de l’Oratoire Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal par le chant sacré. Âgés de huit à dix-sept ans, les 210 garçons qui la composent proviennent d’origines culturelles diverses mais partagent une passion commune pour le chant. À la maîtrise, ils découvrent les grandes œuvres polyphoniques de toutes les époques et de tous les pays. Leur répertoire s’étend du chant grégorien aux œuvres vocales contemporaines.
