Musique Royale is delighted to welcome the exceptional young pianist Angel Wen to perform a morning concert at Cecilia’s Retreat in Mahone Bay (1199 Oakland Rd, RR2) on Saturday June 21 at 11 am. 12-year-old Angel Wen is a Grade 6 student at Sackville Heights Junior High School and has been a piano student of Prof. Lynn Stodola since 2023. She is the recent winner of the Nova Scotia Talent Trust’s Peggy Corkum/Musique Royale Legacy Award, granted to the pianist who, amongst all others, shows the greatest artistic potential and excellence. Angel’s concert will include works by Beethoven, Schubert, Debussy and Chopin.
About Angel Wen
12-year-old Angel Wen is a Grade 6 student and has been a student of Prof. Lynn Stodola since 2023. Since being introduced to piano at the age of 5, she has shown great enthusiasm towards piano performance.
This past December, Angel had the honour of being invited to play at the Nova Scotia Talent Trust (NSTT) 2024 Special Awards Ceremony at the Halifax Central Library, performing Chopin’s Fantasie Impromptu as recipient of the NSTT Peggy Corkum/Musique Royale Legacy Award, established by Barbera Butler in Ms. Corkum’s honour.
In March 2025, Angel performed with the Chebucto Symphony Orchestra as the winner of their 2025 Concerto Competition. Featured work: Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major, K. 488. In April 2025, Angel participated in the Nova Scotia Kiwanis Music Festival, securing first place in seven advanced level classes and earning a recommendation for the Developing Artist Stream of the Federation of Canadian Music Festival Provincial competition for Nova Scotia . She also received the 2025 Kiwanis Music Festival Trophy from the Halifax Chapter of the Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’ Association (NSRMTA) for the highest number of First Place wins in the festival. In May 2025, Angel won the NSRMTA Scholarship Competition in the (highest) Advanced Division as the youngest participant. The Previous year she won the senior division as well.
Angel is an enthusiast for public welfare and has many hobbies. She enjoys hiking, skiing, tennis, and swimming. She raised $384.21 to support NSTT scholarships by running in the 2025 Emera Blue Nose Marathon (Purple Cow 5KM). She also plays for the Sobeys Atlantic Tennis Centre’s girls’ competition team. Angel has received tremendous support from the music community, receiving awards from the Halifax Ladies’ Musical Club and scholarships from the Nova Scotia Talent Trust. She is the 2024 recipient of the Halifax Ladies’ Musical Club Award for Outstanding Junior in the Halifax Kiwanis Music Festival.
