About

“Three For All” features guitarists Scott Macmillan, Emma Rush and Daniel MacNeil, who skillfully blend the voices of their different guitars to create a unique instrumental sound. The program includes original works by Macmillan and MacNeil, music from Spain and Latin America, sounds from the jazz world and more. Macmillan is a renowned steel-string player with roots in Celtic music and jazz; MacNeil, one of Canada’s most versatile guitarists, specializes in world music traditions; and Rush is a virtuosa classical guitarist who tours the world. Concerts take place at Memory Lane Heritage Village—in the iconic setting of Clam Harbour Church, followed by a three-course meal in the Cookhouse—and at Cecilia’s Retreat in Mahone Bay, overlooking a spectacular view of Mader’s Cove.

About the Artists

Scott Macmillan – guitar

Scott Macmillan’s passion for creating music propels him forward, driven by his need to create. Macmillan seeks opportunities in all aspects of music making, inspiring exploration into genres from rock to blues, classical to choral, Celtic to jazz, as well as modern and avant-garde. Music has taken Macmillan to many places, including Carnegie Hall in New York, to perform his much-loved ode to our world’s oceans, Celtic Mass for the Sea, with his partner and librettist Jennyfer Brickenden. He has performed in the British Isles and Germany, the USA, and has crossed Canada many times to conduct orchestras, perform, make television and radio shows, and create soundtracks for films.

Emma Rush – guitar

Emma Rush is “widely regarded as one of Canada’s premier classical guitarists” (Vivascene Magazine), and her career has commanded worldwide recognition. Touring highlights include the Shanghai International Guitar Festival, Festival de Guitarras Lagos de Moreno in Mexico, Future Echoes Festival in Sweden and the prestigious Internationales Gitarren Symposion Iserlohn in Germany. Rush is a favourite guest at Canadian guitar festivals including GuitarFest West in Calgary, Guitar Alla Grande in Ottawa, Sauble Beach Guitar Festival in Ontario and the Montreal International Guitar Festival, and she tours regularly across Canada and worldwide.

Daniel MacNeil – guitar

Daniel MacNeil is a multiple award-winning instrumentalist, composer and educator based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His achievements include performance, composition and arranging for the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony and Symphony Nova Scotia. As both a composer and instrumentalist, MacNeil has also been featured and filmed for an entire concert of original works produced by CBC’s Studio 60 and the East Coast Music Hour, and he has been featured in countless festivals across Canada. Additional concerts he has written for include orchestral pops in the Celtic music genre, music for the PEI Symphony and an Atlantic Airwaves concert produced and recorded by CBC.
